MML were the principal contractor for the duration of the asbestos removal and demolition works at the former Barnet College in Mill Hill.

During initial surveys, asbestos was found throughout the older part of the college which required a licensed contractor to remove and dispose of. During this time, MML operatives worked on the newer part of the college campus that was free from asbestos. MML worked with the licensed asbestos contractor to maintain safe segregation of work methods to avoid any incidences of asbestos exposure.

Due to concerns over dust that would be generated from the demolition, a scaffold and monoflex screen was erected between the demolition site and the neighbouring construction works.

The demolition of Barnet College consisted of eight main buildings, including a swimming pool, construction college building and the main college buildings. Waste management for the site stipulated that all materials, where possible, were to be recycled. All the hard arisings from the buildings and their foundations were crushed into a reusable aggregate and remained on site.

The aggregate was used for the piling mats that were installed by MML to ensure the stability of the rig carrying out the piling works. Using our engineering department, the piling mats were excavated backfilled with crush to level and compacted to suite the requirements of the client and their piling contractor.
